Overview of The Season
Our fisheries continue to showcase why the South Island is a must for serious anglers. Cedar Lodge offers exclusive helicopter access to a variety of rivers and tributaries known for producing wild brown and rainbow trout, often in the 4.5 to 6-pound range—with double-digit trophies also a possibility.
This season, fish movement kept our team sharp. Trout frequently transitioned between high country tributaries and main river systems. Yet, our tenured guides, with decades of cumulative experience and an unmatched understanding of these waters, consistently stayed one step ahead. Their cooperative approach—sharing real-time data and daily insights—ensured guests enjoyed the most productive and rewarding fishing days possible.
Our average daily catch hovered just under four trout per day, a testament not only to the technical challenges of New Zealand’s famed spot-and-stalk style but also to the trophy-class size of our fish.

A guest favorite this year? Our newly introduced casting course, which became a lively gathering spot each evening. Congratulations to Billy Goff, who set a course record of 16, a feat that may stand for seasons to come.
