Cat Skiing Crested Butte, Colorado

The Aspen leaves have just started to turn to their glowing shade of gold and we have had our first snow of the season in Crested Butte. Signs of winter are everywhere, reminding us that we will soon be hanging up our mountain bikes and fly rods and trading them for powder skis and snowboards. In anticipation of winter 2020/21, we are excited to share our latest ski edit. This new video takes you through a winter day in the life at our flagship properties, Scarp Ridge Lodge and Sopris House.

Days at the lodge begin with a chef-prepared breakfast, a meal carefully conceptualized to keep you fueled throughout your day of skiing powder at our exclusive catskiing area, Irwin. Located 13 miles west of the historic town of Crested Butte, Colorado, Irwin is a snow-catching paradise. Often likened to a meteorological catcher’s mitt, this 1,000-acre area holds storms that at times dump twice the amount of snow that the town of Crested Butte receives. Eleven guests who ski Irwin are transported in the custom Tucker vehicle through pine forests up to the base area, where they set up for the day in our on-mountain outposts, the Cat Barn and the Movie Cabin. After booting up, climbing snowcats bring them to the top of Scarp Ridge, topping out at an elevation of over 12,000 feet. A day of powder skiing with their 10 best friends awaits, interrupted only by gourmet lunch and après ski treats. With a variety of terrain, from fresh corduroy to steep and deep west-facing chutes through the trees, Irwin has riding for everyone.
