OUR ETHOS

The cornerstone of the Eleven experience is the sense of place that underpins everything we do. Regardless of where we find ourselves – be it the wild terrain of Iceland or the serene countryside of France – we are committed to embracing and preserving the local culture and environment. Before embarking on any adventure, whether it’s fishing or skiing, we adhere to six core principles of stewardship. These principles guide our actions, ensuring that we leave a positive impact on the environment and the communities we encounter.

 

PILLARS OF ELEVEN STEWARDSHIP

CARBON OFFSETTING

We offer guests and employees the ability to help offset the carbon footprint of their travel to and from our lodges by supporting carbon sequestration projects in partnership with Eleven Offsets.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

We’ve installed solar and geothermal energy systems in Iceland, Colorado and France, reducing our carbon footprint while embracing the unique environmental ethos of these regions.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

From sponsoring community festivals, clubs, and teams, to working with neighborhood vendors and donating to local nonprofits, we are dedicated to developing deeper relationships between our team members, guests and the communities in which we operate.

CONSERVATION

To minimize our impact in and around our destinations, we’re limiting food waste and single-use plastics, planting on-property gardens and sourcing local produce, emphasizing ‘Leave No Trace’ principles, and designing our lodges with local furnishings.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION

Many of our lodges are historic and have been restored to preserve their centuries-old heritage. Original building materials, local decor, regional art and recycled furniture fill the spaces, honoring native legacy.

CULTURAL RESPECT

In appreciation of the rich culture of each region we emphasize their traditional culinary techniques and dishes, our local staff share language tips, our interior design reflects cultural narratives, and we respect local customs.

ELEVEN INVITES GUESTS TO HELP OFFSET CARBON EMISSIONS

To preserve the extraordinary places we call home, Eleven has developed a program which makes it easy for our guests to help offset the carbon emissions generated by their travel to and from our lodges. The program, Eleven Offsets, was developed in partnership with our non-profit affiliate, the Grassy Creek Foundation, and supports carbon sequestration projects and other mitigation techniques. Guests who choose to participate join us in our commitment to environmental stewardship, alongside our portfolio-wide efforts like local sourcing, renewable energy, and small-group adventure.
