The Meaning of ‘Discover the Wild Within’
Though Rio Palena Lodge isn’t just down the block or around the corner for most, the powerful sense of place you encounter once you’ve arrived is unforgettable. It isn’t defined by the roads or the miles it takes to get there—it’s defined by the pull of the wild; the freedom of journeying beyond the expected; the instinct that something greater is waiting just over the horizon—and that the adventurer inside is finally bubbling towards the surface. It’s defined by the omnipresence of nature—a wild oasis disrupted by nothing and expectant of no pretenses. It’s defined by the realization that in the throws of getting lost, something far greater is found.

Setting the Scene

Welcome to the wild, in the boldest sense of the word. Welcome to the place of all places, where the rivers pump with the exhilarating energy of the elements; the mountains tower with a steady sense of strength; and the winds gust with an unexpected feeling of home. Welcome to boundless space, where the boisterous beat of nature and the long-lost absence of distraction unearths something even wilder than that which is around you—the wild that is within you. The Journey

The first cut plunges you into this mecca of Patagonian scenery. The journey to the lodge is marked by awe-inspiring views, a gradual yet palpable fading of the noise of everyday life, and a culmination of increasingly remote and breathtaking signposts (however rudimentary they may be—a village here, a river there) along the way…

The Destination

Tucked away in the middle of miles and miles of Patagonian grandeur stands Rio Palena Lodge, your home in the heart of the wild. Surrounded on all sides by the rugged Andes mountains and situated on the banks of the magnificent Palena River, Rio Palena Lodge is set in one of the most inspiring valleys on the planet. While the culturally artistic interiors, native stone fireplaces, and irresistable ambiance might entice you to stay in, the colossal windows are an ever-present reminder of why you’ve really traveled to the ends of the Earth—the expanses that await just outside.

The View

In every direction, you’ll find cascading waterfalls, jaw-dropping overlooks, vibrant rainforests that cover more than 500 miles; jagged peaks, rushing rivers, the purest of pure blue lakes; ancient forests, flourishing valleys, flora and fauna as diverse, untamed, and thriving as they come. The 2,000-year-old Alerce trees and the Pudu, the smallest deer in the world, are amongst the most unique creatures you might spot, and the Futaleufú River, the native Mapuche translation of “Big River,” tears its way through stark canyon walls just a stone’s throw away.
