Along our haute route, you’ll stay at Eleven’s two backcountry huts, Refuge les Mollettes on the French side, and Rifugio Valgrisenche on the Italian side. Historically sheep herders’ huts, the stone buildings date back to the early 1900’s and still maintain much of their original personality. They’ve been restored to include a rudimentary bathroom with a shower, bunk-style accommodations, a kitchen, and a candlelit dining area with sheepskin throws that invite you to step back in time for an immersive overnight experience in the Alps.
Begin your adventure at Eleven’s chalets in Le Miroir, a quiet village in the French Alps. Hike through wildflower-strewn trails to Refuge les Mollettes, then cross into Italy over the Col du Mont pass, passing wartime remnants and Tor de Géants race routes. Spend night two at Rifugio Valgrisenche. Day three offers glacier hiking, canyoning, or rock climbing before returning to Le Miroir.
Depart from Chalet Hibou or Chalet Pelerin to hit the Via Cordata route above Le Miroir. Traverse the limestone face with the support of your guides, then drop down to e-bike into the French Alps to the Refuge les Mollettes. Enjoy a lunch with local ingredients, fine wine, and incredible views. Soak up the stunning landscapes as the sun sets, then enjoy a chef-prepared candlelit dinner before retiring to the bunkroom.
Wake up to a crackling fire, then fill up on a hearty breakfast. Embark on a full-day hike of about seven hours and 3,700 feet / 1,127 meters of elevation gain, where you’ll climb mountain passes, trek by alpine lakes, and make your way across the border over the historic Col du Mont into Italy. After a picnic lunch, descend into the Valgrisenche Valley, where the Rifugio Valgrisenche greets you with après al fresco. Relax with drinks while you enjoy another spectacular remote setting and an evening full of Italian food.
A mountain-style breakfast fuels you for your last day, which can be spent rock climbing or glacier hiking. Ease back into civilization with a delicious lunch at one of our favorite restaurants in Italy, then jump in our vehicles for a beautiful drive back to the chalets.
