THE AURORA BOREALIS, EXPLAINED

The Northern Lights, often referred to as the Aurora Borealis, are one of humankind’s greatest peek into nature’s splendor. The night sky’s striking shades result from electrical charges colliding up to 200 miles above the earth’s surface, and are best viewed near the Arctic Circle on long nights between September and March.

The native legends explaining these ethereal displays are fascinating; one tale holds that the firefox ran so quickly across the night sky that it sparked flames from the stars, while another regards them as the reflective glow of the shields of the Valkyrie, the female warriors of old.
