A DAY IN THE LIFE

MORNING:

A chef-prepared breakfast fuels your day ahead. After a short heli-ride to the nearby peaks, spend your morning skiing untracked powder in the Patagonian backcountry.

AFTERNOON:

Take a break with an in-field lunch and continue exploring the pristine terrain alongside expert guides, who will take you to the runs that best suit your skill level and preferences.

EVENING:

Return to the lodge for après by a native stone fireplace. After a beautiful dinner of local beef or fish paired with Chilean wine, soak in the hot tub listening to the nearby Palena River.

ALTERNATE ACTIVITIES:

Non-skiing guided adventures can include fishing, whitewater rafting, stand up paddle boarding, inflatable kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Do you need to be an expert skier to heli-ski at Rio Palena?

A: Rio Palena Lodge’s terrain is so expansive and diverse that any confident skier will thrive, making this experience ideal for families with varying skier levels. Mellow rolling terrain suits younger or newer skiers, while more seasoned experts can rip down the nearby steeps. Of course, our access to extreme terrain is also extensive, inviting serious skiers to explore a truly wild region that very few have skied before.

Q: What is the terrain like in Rio Palena?

A: The lodge is surrounded by the towering peaks of the Andes Mountains. Steep couloirs will get even the most experienced skier’s adrenaline pumping, while powder-covered glaciers offer more approachable terrain for less ambitious skiers in your group. Skiing in this part of the world is truly unforgettable, and our guides are just the pros to show you around.

Q: If we want to take a day off or have non-skiers in our group, what else can we do?

A:  One of the most unique aspects of Rio Palena Lodge’s heli-ski season is that the lower country around the lodge is typically snow-free this time of year. These spring-like conditions generally allow for easy access to waterfall hikes, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and stand up paddleboarding. If you’re looking for a bit of downtime, the lodge offers the ultimate in refined amenities, delivering a tranquil sequence of fireside reading time, relaxation in the hot tubs and saunas, and view-laden après on the outdoor decks.
