a letter from your guide

Elvar Fridriksson, Fishing Operations Manager

Fishing in Iceland will test any angler’s skill, and you will almost always have the lake to yourself. Waters are usually crystal clear, so anglers are often able to sight fish, which makes the catch all the more exciting. Most fishing is done with floating lines and fairly light tackle, and nothing beats a big fish breaking the surface to take the fly. Pound for pound, the fish are strong and will put up a good fight, especially if the tackle is light. In Iceland, all fishing is catch-and-release. I find nothing more rewarding than releasing a beautiful fish, knowing it will go on to repopulate the river and ensure great fishing in the future. Various waters will test the guide’s and the angler’s knowledge in fly choice, presentation, and ability to read the water.

what will your trip look like?

There are various lakes within an hour drive from Deplar Farm that offer good char and trout fishing. Some of them can be accessed by car, and others by hiking or helicopter.

DAY 1 - Arrival + Blue Lagoon + Transfer to Deplar Farm

Arrive at Reykjavik’s Keflavik International Airport (KEF). Take a morning soak in the famous Blue Lagoon before hopping on a flight to the north. Transfer from Akureyri (AEY) to Deplar Farm where you will settle in with a chef-prepared dinner and well-deserved time in the spa.

Post breakfast, head to Siglufjördur, a local fishing village rich in history. Visit the museums and take in the local culture. Set sail with an experienced local captain to hook cod and haddock. Take your catch back to Deplar, where the in-house chef will prepare it for dinner.

DAY 3 – Lake fishing + Brewery tour

Wake-up with a hike around the Troll Peninsula then join your Eleven guide for an afternoon of lake fishing. Celebrate your catch with a craft beer or two during a local brewery, then head back to the lodge for spa time, cocktails and a chef-prepared dinner.
